PLINTH PEOPLE
BACKGROUND
Photography / Digital montage / 2015
"Class Divide Memorial Fountain", Mareschplatz, Vienna.
Before getting dressed up for planned or vaguely planned photo-shoots, Plinth People involved just standing on empty plinths or rocks and so on as we randomly found them. I was interested in doing some "temporary human sculptures" with an aim to fix some in time and space by later creating life-sized sculptures based on the poses. But I became preoccupied with the multi-figure montages after the three Mayas picture at Carisbrooke Castle (below), and also inventing absurd costumes. In any case, turning some Plinth People into permanent statues would be pleasing too.

Unaware that plinths would become a theme, this first montage was made at the end of the Bucket Bloke project in 2014.
