CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY PARTY
Event model / 2013
An alternative celebration for Christmas Day
On December 25, 2013, we invited friends to Linus Scherer's workshop-gallery in Zurich for a party. While others celebrated the rumoured birth of a mythical figure, we paid tribute to a selection of real people, living and dead, equally worthy and arguably more relevant. The evening went well, we got fed and drunk like most other people that day, watched Casablanca and African Queen on a big screen, danced to music by Annie Lennox and Cab Calloway. The choice of "celebrities" (must find another word!) is variable, and although I chose twelve, they could be any number. We printed out and stuck in the window information about our birthday boys and girls, and I particularly enjoyed introducing Quentin Crisp and Kenny Everett to Swiss friends who hadn't had the pleasure. Old TV shows could be included, documentaries, extracts read from books and so on. Of course, this could take place on other dates, not just at Christmas.
